Job Summary
Supervise wagon yard operations and ensure safe, efficient wagon movement in the yard. Coordinate wagon placement for loading, unloading, maintenance, inspections, and train formation; oversee shunting operations and ensure proper wagon consist formation. Maintain real-time documentation of wagon movements, inventory, and defects; enforce AML safety procedures, lockout/tagout, and incident investigations. Liaise with Train Operations, Track Maintenance, Wagon Maintenance, and Rail Control to align yard activities with daily train schedules. Lead yard personnel, ensure equipment readiness, support training and competency development, and drive improvements in accuracy of records and reduction of movement errors. Proficiency with wagon brake and coupling systems, rail safety rules, and yard reporting tools (tracking systems, radios, CMMS) is essential. Strong planning, communication, and problem-solving skills in a field-based, outdoor industrial setting.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Rail Operations, Industrial Maintenance, or related technical field
- Minimum 3–5 years' experience in rail yard operations, shunting, or wagon handling
- Experience supervising small technical or operational teams
- Knowledge of wagon brake systems, coupling systems, and basic mechanical components
- Knowledge of rail yard operations, shunting procedures, and train formation principles
- Proficiency with tracking systems, radios, CMMS or wagon tracking software
- Strong supervisory and team coordination skills
