LPN/Surgical Technologist - Operating Room

Job Summary

Assemble and troubleshoot surgical equipment, ensuring all instruments and supplies are ready before each case begins. Maintain strict aseptic techniques, monitor for breaks in sterile protocol, and communicate findings to the circulating nurse and surgeon. Conduct accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts, properly handle surgical specimens, and confirm medication labels on the sterile field. Update preference cards and coordinate inventory needs with the inventory coordinator. This role requires current CST certification, BCLS, and LPN licensure. Full-time hours include 6-8 hours standing and 1-2 hours sitting, with potential for weekend and PRN shifts. Fisher-Titus serves the greater Huron County area, providing a full continuum of care from heart surgery to outpatient services.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited LPN program
  • Current CST certification
  • BCLS Certification or within 12 months of hire
  • LPN Licensure maintained
  • Knowledge of techniques and procedures used by surgeons for various surgeries
  • Ability to assemble and troubleshoot equipment and instrumentation
  • Understanding of the principles of asepsis
  • Knowledge of sterilization and disinfection
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the electronic system to retrieve and view pick tickets
  • Practices within the scope of practice for a Surgical Technologist as outlined by the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST)
  • Ability to use instruments/medical devices
  • Ability to provide exposure
  • Ability to handle and/or cut tissue
  • Ability to provide hemostasis
  • Ability to suture under the direction of the surgeon
  • Understanding of techniques used by various surgeons to facilitate a safe surgical procedure in the assist role
  • Professional, neat, clean appearance appropriate for the work environment
  • Ability to wear proper photo identification badge while on duty
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all hospital and patient information
  • Ability to attend monthly staff meetings and participate in monthly rounding process
  • Ability to participate in and complete required department specific education and training programs
  • Ability to follow safety and security policies including exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens
