Job Summary
Administer nursing care to residents under RN supervision, including direct personal care, medication administration, and treatment procedures. Evaluate resident health status, document care accurately, and direct CNAs in unit duties. Operate medical equipment safely, maintain unit cleanliness, and coordinate unit operations when in charge. Complete 24-hour and shift reports, participate in physician rounds, and assist with admission/discharge paperwork. Provide resident comfort and safety while maintaining confidentiality and complying with facility policies.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an approved LPN program
- Current NYS licensure as Licensed Practical Nurse
- Proficiency in medication administration
- Practiced phlebotomy skills
- Demonstrated effective communication, conflict resolution and problem solving skills
- Knowledge of the process of aging as it relates to health care
- Knowledge of resident rights and abuse regulations
- Knowledge of back safety techniques as it pertains to the LPN role
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Professionalism and business acumen appropriate for working with guests, clients, physicians, employees and volunteers
- Excellent time management skills, punctuality and a sense of urgency in completing tasks
- Ability to cost effectively manage resources and supplies
- Requires frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling during the work day
- Requires pushing beds, wheelchairs and recliners in excess of approximately 200 pounds with assistance
- Requires lifting, carrying, repositioning, and transferring residents who may weigh in excess of 200 pounds using proper body mechanics
- Requires unit specific orientation
- Complies with DOH requirements for annual health assessments and required immunizations
Desired Qualifications
- Current certification in CPR
- Completion of Psychopharmacology and Emergency IV courses
- 6 Months to 1 year of experience in similar hospital setting
