Job Summary
Administer medications and treatments to memory care residents, documenting all actions in Matrix-Care. Monitor resident assignments, observe medical concerns, and report issues to the Wellness Nurse. Assist in developing care plans, transcribing physician orders, and ensuring infection control compliance. Provide direct care and emergency support to resident care assistants while maintaining clean and sanitary work areas. Participate in staff training, committee meetings, and safety drills. Maintain confidentiality of resident information and handle complaints or grievances as directed.
Required Qualifications
- current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an RN or LPN in this state
- at least two (2) years experience
- ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
- ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
- ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public
- knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long- term care
- leadership ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel
- ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care
- patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents
- willingness to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices
- ability to relate information concerning a resident's condition
- not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace
- ability to move intermittently throughout the workday
- ability to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner
- ability to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
- ability to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met
- function independently, and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies
- good general health and demonstrate emotional stability
- ability to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility
- ability to lift, push, pull, and move a minimum of 50 pounds
- ability to perform tasks that may involve exposure to the resident's blood/body fluids
- ability to assist in the evacuation of residents
- ability to perform CPR and emergency medical treatment
- high school diploma and graduation from an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing Program
Desired Qualifications
- 10 hours of dementia training per year
- 2 hours of pain in dementia
