Job Summary
Conduct all cases performed by surgeons as a primary scrub person, handling instruments and supplies before, during, and after procedures. Circulate under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse when assigned. Perform pre-op and post-op duties including patient treatment, blood collection, sample collection, ECGs, and receptionist/clerical activities. Mentor new LPN/ORTs in orientation and training while maintaining asepsis and anticipating surgeon needs. Work primarily at the CVPH main campus with assignments to the Ambulatory Surgery Center, taking call as scheduled.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Currently Licensed Practical Nurse in New York State
- Meets requirements of pre-employment screening and physical
- Excellent attendance record
- Process basic windows knowledge
- Must be able to take call as scheduled
- Must be self-motivated and technically adept
- Able to handle a high stress level
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods
- Must be able to lift patient and equipment with assistance of other personnel or without as need dictates
- Must be able to work closely with RNs in room and management about instrumentation and equipment for cases
- Must be able to serve as a resource person for certain specialties
- Must be able to anticipate the needs of the surgeon
- Must have excellent adaptation and coping skills
- Must have excellent organizational skills
- Must be a team player
- Must be able to take call as scheduled
- Knowledge of technical OR equipment and/or Anatomy & Physiology
Desired Qualifications
- BLS Certified preferred or obtain within six months
