LPN Medical Oncology Unit

Job Summary
Perform all duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service, including completing initial assessments upon admission and developing appropriate plans of care. Implement nursing interventions, administer medications, and perform procedures such as starting IVs, inserting NG tubes, dressing changes, and administering chemotherapy or biotherapy to patients across the hospital. Maintain up-to-date documentation of nursing care to assure integration for the healthcare team, ensuring accurate chart audits are passed quarterly. Provide emotional support to patients and their families while modifying care plans based on continuous evaluation.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN)
- Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) licensure
- Education in Nursing
- Work experience in Nursing
- Oncology skill set (inpatient chemotherapy and radiation)
- Palliative and end of life care knowledge
- General medical patient care knowledge
- Ability to perform head-to-toe assessments
- Ability to start IVs
- Ability to insert NG tubes
- Ability to perform dressing changes
- Ability to administer medications
- Ability to insert foley catheters
- Ability to access Mediports and maintain ports throughout the shift
- Ability to maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care
- Ability to complete initial assessment upon patient admission
- Ability to develop appropriate plan of care
- Ability to implement nursing interventions and patient care procedures
- Ability to modify plan of care based upon continuous evaluation
- Ability to communicate with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues
- Ability to provide emotional support to patients and their families
- Ability to administer Chemotherapy/Biotherapy to patients not only on the Oncology unit but also throughout the hospital
- Ability to pass quarterly chart audits
