Job Summary
Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, administer chemotherapy and biotherapy, and perform procedures including IV starts, NG tube insertions, dressing changes, and foley catheter placement. Manage inpatient care for patients aged 18 and older across a 30-bed unit, delivering palliative and end-of-life support while maintaining rigorous documentation standards for quarterly audits. Collaborate with the healthcare team to modify care plans based on continuous evaluation and ensure patient and employee safety. Provide emotional support to patients and families throughout the shift.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
- College Diploma: Nursing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
- RN >1yr
- Must maintain documentation standards as evidenced by passed quarterly chart audits
- Must be able to administer Chemotherapy/Biotherapy to patients not only on the Oncology unit but also throughout the hospital
- Must be able to perform head-to-toe assessments
- Must be able to start IVs
- Must be able to insert NG tubes
- Must be able to perform dressing changes
- Must be able to administer medications
- Must be able to insert foley catheters
- Must be able to Access Mediports and maintain port throughout the shift
- Must be able to provide emotional support to patients and their families
- Must be able to complete initial assessment upon patient admission and develop appropriate plan of care
- Must be able to implement plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures
- Must be able to modify plan of care based upon continuous evaluation
- Must be able to take responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents
- Must be able to communicate with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues
- Must be able to offer constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers
- Must be able to confer with colleagues to expand knowledge base
- Must be able to identify own learning needs and take initiative to begin appropriate solution
- Must be able to fulfill all requirements of departmental competencies
- Must be able to perform all responsibilities and duties required by unit as specific to the scope of service
- Must be able to implement procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice
