Job Summary

Deliver direct patient care including IV therapy within the Med/Surg unit under Registered Nurse direction. Apply the nursing process through data gathering, planning, and evaluation to address physical, psycho-social, and safety needs. Communicate professionally with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team while adapting to rapid unit changes. Maintain clinical knowledge, technical skills, and required credentials including current LPN licensure and BLS certification. Manage personal professional development and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and accreditation standards. Perform heavy lifting and work in areas with exposure to blood, body fluids, and hazardous medications.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with and maintaining confidential information
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
  • Current LPN License in the state of practice
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association
  • Ability to effectively use the Nursing Process in the delivery of patient care through data gathering, planning and evaluation
  • Ability to provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the ages of patients served
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all patients, guests, family members and co-workers
  • Ability to adapt to rapid change in a positive manner throughout the day as needs of the unit / department change
  • Ability to manage personal professional development and maintain required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training and credentials
  • Knowledge of current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility
  • Ability to ensure compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards
  • Ability to report any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors or conduct
  • Ability to ensure patient/employee safety
  • Ability to ensure patient privacy
  • Ability to handle exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue
  • Ability to work in a patient care area
  • Ability to work in an area where patients enter
  • Ability to work directly with patients
  • Ability to work with specimens that could contain communicable diseases
  • Ability to handle exposure to hazardous medications
  • Ability to handle exposure to hazardous waste
  • Ability to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally
  • Ability to exert 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently
  • Ability to exert 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly
  • Ability to walk or stand to a significant degree
  • Ability to push and/or pull of arm or leg controls
  • Ability to work at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials
  • Ability to reside in and work from an area other than Colorado, California, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Washington, Washington D.C.
