Job Summary
Initiate and provide comprehensive nursing care in a correctional setting while observing operational security requirements. Collaborate with intake staff to monitor patient flow and ensure timely processing by Health Services. Perform clinical screenings, collect medical histories, and administer medications per provider orders while maintaining security protocols. Conduct observation rounds, record progress notes, and evaluate patient symptoms and reactions. Coordinate laboratory duties including specimen collection, tracking, and escalating critical results. Assist with diagnostic services such as EKGs and imaging, ensuring results are routed and documented. Identify urgent findings and immediately escalate concerns to providers, leadership, or emergency services per facility protocol. Maintain accurate medical records in the electronic health record and support record reconciliation.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current, unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the state where the facility is located
- Competence in crisis intervention
- Competence in medical emergencies
- Competence in clinical screening
- Competence in medical nursing care
- Competence in psychiatric nursing care
- Ability to work without direct, immediate supervision in performing nursing diagnosis
- Ability to provide appropriate follow through treatment
- Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department
Desired Qualifications
- Two (2) years of direct work experience Licensed Practical Nurse
