Job Summary
Lower School Long Term Substitute, Associate Teacher in a Lower School setting (Pre-First through Fifth grades) at Pace Academy. Works with and is supervised by a Homeroom Teacher to provide a positive learning environment, teaching core academic instruction in reading, writing, mathematics and global studies, and collaborating with specialists. Fits within a team of teachers with emphasis on diversity, equity and inclusion, character development, and Pace’s pillars of character. Responsibilities include supervising students, supporting progress discussions with the Homeroom Teacher, attending regular faculty meetings and professional development, and participating in after-school events as needed. Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree (elementary education preferred), ability to teach core subjects, familiarity with Orton-Gillingham is desired, strong communication skills, proficiency with educational technology, and a commitment to equity and inclusion. The role is temporary and exempt, with duties spanning classroom collaboration, student support, and participation in school events and initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A or B.S) required; elementary education degree preferred
- Love of young children and their development
- Must be familiar with the methodology of teaching core academic subjects, including reading, writing, mathematics, social studies and science
- Experience with Orton-Gillingham is desired
- A positive outlook, flexibility and a collaborative, nurturing nature
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (both oral and written) skills
- Proficient using educational technology, including interactive whiteboards
- Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion practices
