Job Summary
Install, repair, maintain, and test commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential low voltage electrical systems, including communications, security, and fire alarm systems. Measure, cut, bend, thread, and install conduit; feed, pull, and terminate wire and cable at junction points. Use industry hand and power tools safely under the supervision of electronic systems technicians, fire life safety technicians, and certified electricians. Communicate effectively with foremen and crew while maintaining compliance with national, state, and local electrical codes. Be courteous to customers and work in various weather conditions, including cold, snow, rain, and heat.
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled and in good standing in a California approved electronic systems technician (EST) apprentice program subscribed to by Bergelectric Corp.
- Must maintain all classroom/schooling requirements, including passing grades.
- Must remain current on all work that is required by the respective apprentice training program.
- The employee must understand the industry, including knowledge of state and federal electrical codes, fire/life safety codes, and industry installation methods that is commensurate with their level of training.
- Understanding of the basic laws of electricity and electrical systems
- Ability to understand technical instructions and interpret electrical drawings.
- Ability to do basic mathematics and use electrical formulas.
- Ability to follow instructions and assist electronic systems technicians, Fire alarm technicians, and/or certified electricians.
- Ability to see details and compare details in objects.
- Knowledge of industry tools and equipment
- Ability to use industry tools and equipment productively and safely.
- Basic mechanical skills
- Ability to visualize and sketch an electrical layout.
- Flexible with working hours
- Reliable transportation to and from work
- Lift 50 lbs. from the ground and pull 50 lbs. of force.
- Perform ladder climbing, wire pulling and conduit pulling.
- Fully squat, stoop or kneel while wearing a 25 lbs. tool belt.
- Maintain a standing position for long periods of time while performing repetitive actions such as grasping or manipulating wires.
- Work off of ladders, man lifts or reach booms.
- A variety of weather conditions including cold, snow, rain, heat, etc.
- High noise levels
