Job Summary

Field service technician maintains, tests, and repairs residential and commercial burglar and fire alarm systems for ADS customers; diagnoses and services control panels, door contacts, motion detectors, fire initiation devices, and related equipment; instructs customers in proper use of their systems; clearly documents service tickets; manages ADS tools and company vehicle; communicates with department manager and coworkers; adheres to safe work practices and policies; prepared to work and drive in all weather; participates in a rotating night-call schedule; reads and follows the ADS Employee Handbook; performs onsite duties as assigned; punctuality and attendance are emphasized; role requires independent work and customer-focused service.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Technical/vocational degree or related experience preferred
  • 2 years minimum experience with electronic troubleshooting required
  • 2 years of basic electronics experience required
  • Knowledge of burglar and fire alarm equipment
  • Ability to read and understand schematics
  • Electronic troubleshooting using digital and analog volt/ohm/amp meters
  • Troubleshooting skills for AC/DC voltages, field wiring, control panel diagnostics
  • Basic computer skills (laptop, Microsoft Office)
  • Customer service skills
  • Detail oriented with accurate records
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Must be able to obtain Permanent Employee Registration Card (Illinois) if applicable
  • Maintain a driver’s license and insurable driving record

Desired Qualifications

  • 2 years minimum experience with electronic troubleshooting
  • 2 years of basic electronics experience
  • Burglar and Fire Alarm equipment knowledge
  • Ability to read and understand schematics
  • Electronic troubleshooting using Digital and analog Volt/Ohm/Amp meter
  • Troubleshooting skills; AC/DC voltages, field wiring, control panel diagnostics
  • Basic computer skills, use of a laptop and Microsoft Office
  • Customer Service skills
  • Detail oriented with the ability to maintain accurate records
  • Self-motivated and the ability to work independently
  • Maintaining a company vehicle, inventory, cell phone, and ADS tools
  • Valid driver's license and insurable driving record
