Job Summary

Provide quality academic instruction for students attending the LOOP summer school program using research-based strategies and the required curriculum. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students while modeling interventions in behavioral areas. Deliver appropriate educational supplemental activities for both groups and individual needs under the guidance of the Lead Academic Teacher. Maintain and monitor on-going student progress and utilize best classroom management practices to create a conducive learning environment. Collaborate with LOOP staff on various activities and participate in professional development. Submit accurate time sheets and attend all regularly scheduled planning meetings. Program hours are 3.5 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, with sessions held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Required Qualifications

  • College coursework in elementary/secondary education
  • Work Keys Certificate
  • ETS Test
  • LARA (PA 116) mandated requirements
  • Comprehensive Childcare Background Check (CCBC) including fingerprinting by LARA approved agencies
  • CCBC eligibility to work in a licensed childcare facility
  • MiRegistry Health and Safety Online Modules A, B, C and Transportation or annual Health and Safety Refresher Course
  • Module A MUST be completed before working with students
  • First Aid Certification and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation by LARA approved agencies
  • Physical, social, mental and emotional soundness to execute the duties of job
  • Regular and on-time in-person attendance
  • Demonstrated understanding of current research as to how children learn and the ability to motivate student to perform at their best
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an economically, culturally, and racially diverse environment
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction, by using a variety of styles, and inspire mixed culture and ability classes by creating challenging and engaging learning opportunities for all students
  • Demonstrated ability to participate as a member of the team
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse and demanding workload

Desired Qualifications

  • College degree and teaching certificate
  • Valid Michigan Health License (Social Worker, Physical Therapist, Speech and Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist)
  • Teaching or tutoring experience in urban setting
