Job Summary
Instruct students on accessing, evaluating, and communicating information while guiding them to locate and interpret resources within and outside the library media center. Plan joint instructional activities with teachers and administrators to enhance curriculum development and assessment projects. Maintain, store, secure, and loan audiovisual equipment, coordinating instructional TV activities and sending items for repair as needed. Provide an inviting environment in the library media center that promotes reading and research.
Required Qualifications
- Postgraduate or Collegiate Professional License with endorsement in Library Media Pre K-12 or eligible for endorsement
- Hands on experience with circulation and collection analysis
- Proficiency in selecting, evaluating, organizing and processing instructional materials and equipment
- Proficiency in the production and use of a variety of media (print and nonprint) and in organizing, managing and evaluating media programs
- High proficiency in applying the principles of curriculum planning, learning and teaching as they relate to informational skills and to the role of the library-media specialist
- Understanding of the knowledge, skills and processes of the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) and how curriculum can be organized to teach these standards to students
- Understanding and knowledge of the skills and processes of the issues surrounding ethical access and use of information, including copyright, intellectual freedom, privacy and security
- High proficiency in the use of technology in the classroom
- Demonstration of understanding of and proficiency in grammar, usage and mechanics and their integration in writing
- Understanding of and proficiency in grammar, usage and mechanics and their integration in writing
- Occasional movement of students in wheelchairs and other mechanical devices
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds
- Stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, vocal communication for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level, and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data
