Job Summary
Plan and teach pull-out, push-in, and co-teaching groups for elementary ESL students, administering WIDA ACCESS assessments and delivering sheltered instruction aligned with state standards. Maintain a safe, organized classroom environment while collaborating with core teachers, the ESL department, and parents to support diverse learners. Participate in monthly ELD meetings, professional development, and extracurricular activities as directed. This long-term substitute role begins September 1, 2026, and concludes January 6, 2027, at Hosmer School. Candidates must hold a Massachusetts pre-K-6 ESL license with SEI endorsement or dual certification. Multilingual staff are strongly encouraged to apply.
Required Qualifications
- B.A/B.S degree in teaching from an accredited institution or related field
- Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education license as a pre-K-6 ESL teacher and the SEI endorsement (OR dual certification in ESL)
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
- Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology
- Meet professional teacher education requirements of school, district, and state
Desired Qualifications
- Experience teaching early literacy skills
- Familiarity with providing reading and writing instruction and phonics to elementary school students
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience working with and/or teaching elementary students
- Understanding of the needs of students at this age
- Collaborative work ethic
- Commitment to inclusive pedagogy
- Active participation in monthly ELD department meetings and related professional development
- Proficient use of email, spreadsheets, Google Docs, etc. for department communication and file sharing
