Job Summary
Direct the daily activities of licensed practical nurses, certified nursing assistants, and CMA staff in accordance with facility policies and federal regulations. Assess resident status changes, transcribe physician orders, administer medications, and perform wound treatments, colostomy changes, and IV administration. Provide nursing leadership, conduct rounds to ensure resident needs are met, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to manage census changes and care plans. Participate in management meetings, QAPI activities, and survey processes while maintaining infection control and reporting incidents or grievances to appropriate personnel.
Required Qualifications
- Nursing degree from an accredited college or university
- Registered Nurse license in good standing with the State of North Dakota
- Current BLS certification
- Must have no disciplinary action in effect against license
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language
- Must have the visual and auditory ability to assess resident conditions to administer effective care using standard care practices
- Must be able to follow oral and written instructions
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to exercise judgement
- Must be able to relay information concerning a resident's condition
- Strong listening skills and ability to deal with conflict with professionalism and courtesy
- Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork
- Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
- Ability to work independently, and to organize, plan, and manage time effectively to complete assignments
- Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, patients, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public
- Must have patience, tact, and willingness to deal with difficult residents, patients, family and staff
- Must not pose a threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday
- Ability to maintain good balance, stand for prolonged periods of time
- Must have good hand and finger dexterity as required for duties of the position, administer oral medications and injections according to NDBON guidelines and TMC policies, insert catheters, and perform CPR
- Ability to walk, stand, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, for extended periods, and perform overhead lifting and perform other common physical movements as needed for the position
- Ability to lift, move, push or pull a minimum of 50 pounds
- Must have physical agility to respond in a quick manner and in accordance with established facility practices regarding unexpected resident safety needs
- Meets general health requirements according to facility policy, including medical and physical exams and checking immunity status to various infectious diseases
- Ability to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary
- Ability to assist in evacuation of residents and patients during emergency situations
- Must possess leadership, supervisory ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel
- Intermediate computer skills, including ability to complete records and forms, and navigate electronic medical record systems
Desired Qualifications
- Prior experience in long-term care preferred but not required
