Job Summary
Log Buyer responsible for scaling, grading and purchasing logs that meet or exceed company standards, with assistance in marketing and sale of logs not bound for GLC facilities. Role involves storage of logs, data collection and transfer, and ensuring environmental and regulatory compliance, safety, and maintenance of wood-concentration areas and equipment. Responsibilities include accurate scale and grade of logs, supervising trucking related to purchases, proficiency with Excel, Word, GIS, GPS, and data collection tools, weekly reporting of activities and harvest opportunities, supporting foresters/timber buyers, and maintaining data integrity and confidentiality. Requires independent work in remote locations under variable conditions (rain, snow), strong cost-awareness, and professional conduct. Farm-level and field operations emphasize safety, compliance with state regulations on streams and wetlands, and adherence to GLC forestry procedures. 50-hour core workweek with possible weekend/evening work; salary in the mid-to-upper range for the role; Oneonta, NY facility location.
Required Qualifications
- AA Degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, or related field preferred
- 3-5 years experience in Forestry, Natural Resources or related field
- Experience with Word, Excel, Outlook
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a good driving record
- Strong attention to detail and confidentiality
- Ability to work in various weather conditions
- Willing to learn and perform new tasks
