Job Summary
Ensure safe and efficient rail car switching services by operating locomotives, conducting clear job briefings, and managing switches, derails, couplings, and air hoses. Perform plant inspections, air brake tests, and daily reports while maintaining a clean, safe interior. Adhere to all switching procedures, regulations, and safety protocols to protect trains, tracks, and equipment. Work within a team environment to deliver superior customer service and participate in required training initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Ability to obtain necessary certification
- Ability to pass Drug/Alcohol and medical clearances
Desired Qualifications
- Experience as a Locomotive Operator and/or Switchman
- Rail experience
- Previous experience in a customer-oriented environment
- Excellent teamwork skills
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to read and write general documentation including safety briefings, policy and procedure manuals, and switching lists
- Physically fit including the ability to pull self-up and down from a railcar on a continuous basis
- Ability to lift and twist air hoses
- Ability to secure rail car brakes
- Ability to operate both derails and switches effectively
- Knowledge with technology and computer systems with a willingness to use Excel and Outlook on a daily basis
