Job Summary
Locomotive Mechanic/Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic will work independently or in small team environments in the field repairing and servicing Cando’s locomotives. The role involves regular inspection, diagnosing issues, performing recommended repairs or reconditioning, and completing preventative maintenance. Responsibilities include tracking inspections and repair logs, establishing daily/weekly maintenance schedules, caring for tools and work areas, and providing quality customer relations with on-site operations teams. The position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work indoors/outdoors in all weather, and address emergency service problems at any time. Candidates should have five years of experience in heavy industrial environments with locomotives, and may hold Red Seal certification as an asset; a safety-critical medical status and valid driver’s license are required. Training programs, safety culture, and a commitment to safety are emphasized, with on-site work in STURGEON, Alberta, Canada.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in heavy industrial environments and with similar equipment
- Experience in locomotive electrical and mechanical repairs and maintenance is an asset
- Heavy Equipment Technician and/or Electrician with Red Seal certification is an asset
- Hold and maintain safety critical medical status including clear drug and alcohol testing; valid driver’s license is required
- Ability to hold and maintain the safety and rail certifications required to access various sites
- Ability to lift/push/pull a minimum of fifty (50) pounds and to maneuver in/through/around equipment easily and safely
- Willingness to address emergency service problems at any time of day or night
- Ability to independently plan, organize, and prioritize workload
