Job Summary
Locomotive Engineer needed to operate diesel-electric locomotives for freight, interpreting train orders, signals, and railroad rules to ensure safe and efficient movement of trains. Responsibilities include communicating with the conductor/dispatcher by radio, reporting delays or incidents, inspecting locomotives and brake systems, reading train consist data, applying knowledge of territory and terrain for safe operation, observing track conditions, ensuring compliance with FRA regulations, performing mandatory checks, diagnosing minor faults, and possibly performing conductor duties such as coupling/uncoupling cars and switching. Must be able to read safety rules and instruction manuals, work varying shifts including nights and weekends, pass required training and testing, and meet physical requirements for operating in a safety-sensitive environment. The role requires climbing, lifting 50-80 pounds, working around loud equipment, and long-distance walking, with the work environment specified as extreme all-weather conditions and safety-sensitive conditions.
Required Qualifications
- 18 years of age or older
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Certified Conductor / Certified Engineer
- No driving violations involving alcohol or drugs within the past 3 years
