Job Summary
Lead a Locksmith Team within USC's Facilities Planning and Management (FPM), serving as a Trades Specialist Lead to perform advanced shop procedures across programs such as fire/life safety systems, electrical, steam, plumbing, and HVAC. Oversee and coordinate trades personnel within the locksmith shop, assign tasks, schedule locations, and monitor activities. Manage training and development of Locksmith Trainees, ensure compliance with city/state building codes and safety regulations, and provide project management support for assigned projects. Coordinate with customers and vendors, oversee quality of workmanship, and supervise outside contractors as needed. Requires strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with extensive experience in mechanical, electrical, or plumbing trades and proven ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- 5 years of specialized/technical training
- Extensive experience in designated trade (mechanical, electrical, or plumbing)
- 4 years of experience as a trade-related trainee may substitute for completion of a four-year apprenticeship program
- Valid, unrestricted CA driver’s license with at least 2 years driving history
- Demonstrated project management skills and ability to resolve job-related problems
- Thorough understanding of costs, materials, and estimating procedures
- Strong interpersonal and lead skills
- Ability to work effectively with vendors, customers and other trade employees
- Knowledge of computer billing systems
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of HR policies and procedures
- Extensive knowledge of trade-related methods, materials, tools and equipment
- Thorough knowledge of city and state building codes, OSHA rules and regulations, standard safety practices and equipment
