Job Summary
Entry-level Locate Technician responsibilities include locating underground utilities using specialized equipment, reading maps and blueprints to determine locating sequence, using locate equipment to mark the ground, and communicating with peers and homeowners. Training is provided on-the-job, and the role emphasizes safety, independence, and problem-solving with speed and accuracy. The position requires being outdoors in all weather, the ability to work with a laptop to receive and process tickets, and a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts. Eligible applicants must be 18+, have a high school diploma or equivalent, possess a valid driver license with a clean driving record, and pass background and drug screening.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to walk up to 5 miles a day 2-3 times a week
- Ability to carry up to 5 lbs of electronic locating equipment for extended periods of time; lifting objects up to 25 lbs or up to 75 lbs with tool aids
- Pass pre-employment background and drug screening
