Job Summary
Use mechanical equipment to accurately locate underground facilities including gas, water, sewer, electric, and fiber lines. Interpret job order tickets, read maps and blueprints, and determine efficient routes in rural and urban areas. Communicate daily with managers, excavation crews, and homeowners to discuss locate issues. Remove and replace manhole lids while operating independently outdoors. Perform duties before or after normal business hours during on-call rotations. Requires valid driver's license, ability to lift 50 pounds, and walk up to 5 miles daily in all weather conditions. Instructor-led training is required for certification.
Required Qualifications
- Willingness to learn
- Ability to drive local roads, work outdoors, and to operate independently
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to access restricted and/or controlled areas (such as federal installations)
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong work ethic
- Ability to use computer to complete documentation and receive and send email
- Ability to lift, push, and pull at least 50 pounds
- Ability to walk all types of terrain (grass, ditches, wooded areas, gravel, etc.) in and around construction zones and residential, commercial, industrial and rural areas in all types of weather conditions (rain snow, cold, heat, etc.)
- Willingness to perform locate duties before or after normal business hours when on call
