Job Summary
Local Veterans Employment Representatives conduct outreach to employers and business associations to promote employment opportunities for Veterans and facilitate training and placement services. Responsibilities include conducting employer seminars, setting up job search workshops/groups, planning and participating in job/career fairs, promoting the advantages of hiring veterans, partnering with Work One to identify job-ready Veterans, and delivering employer trainings about services offered. The role emphasizes veteran hiring preference, public speaking, and ability to use MS Office; a HS diploma/HSE is required (degree not required) with relevant experience; NVTI training within 18 months is required. Supervisory potential may be utilized depending on agency needs.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or High School Equivalency (HSE) required or equivalent experience
- Experience applying knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role
- Ability to articulate veteran hiring preference and to communicate effectively
- Proficiency with basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Ability to speak publicly and present information to groups
- Ability to conduct internet research on labor market information, veteran programs, and social media (e.g., LinkedIn)
- Must complete all DOL-VETS required training as defined by the NVTI within 18 months
- Ability to develop employer outreach activities and to promote Work One services and veterans’ employment opportunities
- Ability to plan and participate in job and career fairs
- Strong customer service orientation
- Ability to establish relationships with employers, employer associations, and business groups
- Knowledge of VA program offerings available in the State and local job centers
