Job Summary
Direct and manage the daily workload of the Service Center from an operational and warehousing perspective, ensuring organized, efficient, and effective service delivery. Communicate daily with the Local Operations Director to control and maximize workload, planning and dispatching to achieve maximum asset utilization and productivity standards. Review paperwork with crews to ensure proper preparation for daily work and customer requirements, while providing direct, accurate directions for all crews to optimize routes. Accept and register new shipments from foreign carriers, clear shipments for SIT, and coordinate with Van Lines Operations to ensure timely assignment and pickup. Plan, schedule, and manage daily warehouse operations, overseeing cleanliness and compliance with fire, DOD, and DOS inspections. Obtain weights for shipments and maintain a Certified Public Scale. Manage staffing through recruiting, hiring, and retaining skilled employees to ensure maximum asset utilization and profitability. Supervise up to 250 employees in the Local Dispatch Department, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Maintain the cashbox, settle it twice weekly, and remain accountable for terminal profit and loss.
Required Qualifications
- One year certificate from college or technical school
- Two to three years related HHG management experience
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid Driver's License
- Valid CDL A License
- Ability to obtain CDL A License within 6 months of employment
- Ability to obtain Commonwealth of Virginia Weigh Master Permit
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to write simple correspondence
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to withstand pressure and high stress levels
- Must be flexible and able to deal with a change or changes in a courteous, efficient and knowledgeable manner
- Must demonstrate sound judgement
