Job Summary
Drive a tractor trailer to transport product from the warehouse to various customer locations, ensuring timely delivery according to assigned routes. Unload product by hand or using hand carts in all weather conditions, scanning items as they are delivered and placing them in designated storage areas. Handle damaged goods and customer returns, transporting products back to the SYGMA warehouse while maintaining proper food safety protocols and sanitary conditions in the vehicle and yard. Complete all required paperwork, including DOT logs, vehicle maintenance reports, and daily invoices, and report any damages or shortages promptly. Communicate with management regarding route deviations or customer issues and develop good relationships through courteous service. Work evening dispatch schedules from Sunday to Friday, including weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations as needed to meet customer demands.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED/equivalent degree
- 1 year of tractor trailer driving experience
- Completion of a tractor trailer driving school
- Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License
- Ability to be insurable to operate a vehicle
- Knowledge of DOT regulations
- Knowledge of Hazmat guidelines
- Knowledge of Safe lifting and delivery practices
- Skill in driving over long distances, over a variety of terrains and in varying weather conditions
- Skill in communicating with customers
- Skill in solving problems
- Skill in delivering product
- Ability to drive a tractor-trailer unit both in the day and at night in a variety of traffic and weather conditions
- Ability to remain alert and aware of surroundings
- Ability to meet or exceed minimum productivity levels established by the Company
- Ability to handle hazardous materials and food and restaurant items that are frozen, dry and refrigerated
- Ability to operate a 3 axle tractor, 45' - 48' trailer, straight truck, on board computer, key pad and a 2 wheel hand cart
- Ability to read, write and communicate in English as it relates to the job and to the safety regulations
- Ability to perform basic math functions (e.g. add, subtract, multiply, divide)
- Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities independent of direct supervision
- Ability to solve problems
- Ability to lift, push, or move product that weighs up to up to 50 pounds by hand
- Ability to push/pull up to 350 pounds of product with a 2-wheeled hand card down a ramp and into the customer's storage areas
- Ability to climb in and out of a tractor and trailer
- Ability to reach to stack and unstack pallets and hand cart
- Ability to bend and twist while loading and unloading product, and retrieving items from trailer

Desired Qualifications
