Job Summary
Drive a tractor trailer to transport products from the warehouse to customer locations, ensuring timely delivery and proper unloading according to invoices and company standards. Safely operate the vehicle in day and night shifts, varying weather, and traffic conditions while maintaining food safety protocols and sanitary conditions. Pick up, load, and unload damaged goods and returns, complete all required paperwork including DOT logs and maintenance reports, and communicate with management regarding route or product deviations. Maintain good relationships with customers through clear communication and courteous service. Work assigned schedules including evenings and weekends, with overtime and on-call duties as needed to meet customer demands.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License
- Must be insurable to operate a vehicle
- Currently authorized to work in the United States
- High school diploma/GED/equivalent degree
- 1 year of tractor trailer driving experience
- Completion of a tractor trailer driving school
- Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records
- Knowledge of DOT regulations
- Knowledge of Hazmat guidelines
- Knowledge of Safe lifting and delivery practices
- Skill in driving over long distances, over a variety of terrains and in varying weather conditions
- Skill in communicating with customers
- Skill in solving problems
- Skill in delivering product
- Ability to drive a tractor-trailer unit both in the day and at night in a variety of traffic and weather conditions and remain alert and aware of surroundings
- Ability to meet or exceed minimum productivity levels established by the Company
- Ability to handle hazardous materials and food and restaurant items that are frozen, dry and refrigerated
- Ability to operate a 3 axle tractor, 45' - 48' trailer, straight truck, on board computer, key pad and a 2 wheel hand cart
- Ability to read, write and communicate in English as it relates to the job and to the safety regulations
- Ability to perform basic math functions (e.g. add, subtract, multiply, divide)
- Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities independent of direct supervision
- Ability to solve problems
- Ability to lift, push, or move product that weighs up to up to 50 pounds by hand
- Ability to push/pull up to 350 pounds of product with a 2-wheeled hand card down a ramp and into the customer's storage areas
- Ability to climb in and out of a tractor and trailer
- Ability to reach to stack and unstack pallets and hand cart
- Ability to bend and twist while loading and unloading product, and retrieving items from trailer
