Job Summary
Operate, maneuver, and navigate heavy equipment including loaders and backhoes at the asphalt plant in Bellingham. Inspect equipment and structures to identify defects, then conduct post-job quality checks and clean machinery to ensure optimal safety performance. Perform mid-level laborer functions such as hand digging, setting up traffic control, placing fiber, and loading materials on utility construction sites. Expose underground utilities manually and use print and map reading skills to meet specifications for trench or backhoe jobs. Communicate abnormal conditions to supervisors and submit daily paperwork. Requires at least two years of loader experience, one year of backhoe operation, and a valid driver's license.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions
- Ability to lift up to 80 lbs multiple times during a work shift
- Ability to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping, and kneeling
- Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions
- Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team with co-workers
- Ability to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policy
- English usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reports
- Willingness and ability to learn additional skills
- One (1+) plus years of experience in backhoe/mini excavator operation
- Two (2+) plus years of demonstrated experience in operating a loader
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver's License within two weeks of employment
- Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen
