Job Summary
Load and unload materials onto or from pallets, trucks, or customer vehicles, installing strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage during transit. Perform load-building by determining appropriate weight, composition, and placement based on customer orders and vehicle capacity to ensure balanced, safe hauling. Convey materials between storage and designated areas using hand trucks, electric dollies, or forklifts, while reading work orders or following oral instructions to identify items. Open containers and attach identifying tags or labels to ensure correct item identification. Maintain safety by observing all procedures, attending periodic meetings, and recommending improvements to prevent injury. Requires forklift certification, ability to lift up to 80 pounds occasionally, and manual dexterity for tool use.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Three (3) months experience performing these or similar tasks
- Forklift certification
- Knowledge of company products sufficient to take into account weight, shape and handling requirements
- Ability to read and write to handle work orders and labeling tasks
- Manual dexterity
- Ability to use simple hand tools
- Knowledge of safety procedures while performing forklift driving and materials handling tasks
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
- Ability to count items and verify against prepared lists
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and on occasion up to 80 pounds
