Job Summary
Manage a docket of civil litigation matters, including tort, commercial, and environmental cases, with primary responsibility for case strategy, legal analysis, witness preparation, depositions, and judicial proceedings. Provide legal counsel on indemnity, additional insured, incident investigations, and risk management issues while actively reviewing and shaping documents and pleadings. Work independently with supervision, directing outside counsel on substantive direction and financial stewardship, and coordinate with business lawyers, legal operations, and litigation paralegals to manage discovery. Communicate case strategies, status, and key milestones to business clients and law management to ensure alignment between litigation and business line objectives. Handle a significant case load involving volume and complexity, requiring domestic travel as needed.
Required Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- License to practice law in at least one state
- Experience with trials and in managing significant litigation matters
- Litigation experience in a law firm, corporation, or agency, including experience in handling and managing significant and complex litigation matters
- Knowledge of Civil Procedure and Rules of Evidence
- Strong research and analytical skills and ability to exercise sound business judgment and work both independently and as part of an integrated legal team
- Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
- Ability to travel domestically, as needed
- Ability to work effectively with a highly diverse global law department
- Reputation for high ethical standards and integrity
Desired Qualifications
- Texas bar membership
- Strong college and law school record (top 1/3 of class preferred)
- Minimum of three (3) years of legal experience, all (or substantially all) of which is in civil litigation
