Job Summary
Oversee lithographic printing equipment to produce high-quality printed materials while proactively addressing print and mechanical issues. Maintain all mechanical, electrical, and electronic controls, ensuring they are clean, adjusted, and safe for operation. Demonstrate mechanical competency with inking, dampening, and printing units, then assign work to the 2nd Press Operator, Feeder, and Tender. Train junior crew members and monitor product quality against reference standards, resolving issues like picking, piling, ghosting, and register problems. Provide day-to-day direction and coaching to the press crew to support skill development and promote a culture focused on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Government of Canada Secret (Level II) personal security clearance
- 5 years lead operator experience on multi-unit, 40 inch sheet-fed printing press (straight line or perfector)
- Ability to work all shifts (including current and newly created shift schedules), evenings, nights, weekends, 12-hour shifts and rotation
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (standing/walking for prolonged periods, bend/reach, lift/lower up to 45 lbs.)
- Fine motor skills (manual dexterity)
- Mechanical aptitude to make necessary fine adjustments to equipment
