Job Summary
Teach or co-lead daily literacy activities and co-lead projects in STEM, arts, sports, and character development for children and teens. Establish clear objectives for lessons and units, communicate them to students, and adapt instructional methods to meet their needs. Prepare materials for daily activities, administer pre and post-assessments, and input data for reports. Support the curriculum and instruction department by designing lesson plans and implementing curricula across sites, while explaining safety procedures to participants. Collaborate with Site Directors and front-line staff to deliver curricula, participate in professional development, and coordinate program events. This role requires safety and security clearances and involves working within New York City Public Schools.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills
- Experience working with children strongly preferred
- Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of current educational trends in Literacy curriculum and experience successfully teaching and instructing youth
- May be required to walk up and down stairs
- May have to lift or move objects/materials as needed
- Work is permitted mostly within a New York City Public School but may be required to interact with community-at-large during trips or events
- Specialists will be required to report to the school building and interact with staff, students, parents, and school administration
- At the time of offer and acceptance, the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and the Department of Health
Desired Qualifications
- College credits and/or degrees are highly preferred
- Experience working with children strongly preferred
- Knowledge of state and National Literacy efforts
