Job Summary
Teach or co-lead daily literacy-based activities and thematic projects for children and teens, establishing clear objectives and adapting instructional methods to meet student needs. Prepare materials for activities, administer pre and post-assessments, and input data to prepare reports while building strong relationships with students, parents, and school personnel. Collaborate with Site Directors and front-line staff to support curriculum delivery and coordinate program events. This part-time role involves working Monday through Friday from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm across multiple New York City public school sites, requiring in-person presence and safety clearances.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills
- Experience working with children strongly preferred
- Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of current educational trends in Literacy curriculum and experience successfully teaching and instructing youth
- May be required to walk up and down stairs
- May have to lift or move objects/materials as needed
- Work is permitted mostly within a New York City Public School but may be required to interact with community-at-large during trips or events
- Specialists will be required to report to the school building and interact with staff, students, parents, and school administration
- At the time of offer and acceptance, the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and the Department of Health
Desired Qualifications
- College credits and/or degrees are highly preferred
- Experience working with children strongly preferred
