Job Summary
Literacy Specialist for K-3 in a part-time role (0.6 FTE) at St. Alphonsus Parish School in Seattle. Responsible for targeted intervention for both struggling and excelling readers/spellers and for coaching teachers in 1:1 and PLC settings to improve literacy instruction. Must work within Literacy Essentials and Core Knowledge curricula, report to the Learning Resource Specialist and Vice Principal, and participate in training/workshops (including a summer 5-day workshop). Essential duties include classroom push-ins and pull-outs for individual/small-group intervention, modeling for teachers, communicating with parents and staff about goals and progress, differentiating instruction, conducting assessments, scheduling literacy blocks, and providing training to new teachers while ensuring fidelity of adopted programs. Ideal candidate is a collaborative, communicative educator who loves reading and can foster growth in students while aligning with Catholic school values.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education or related field
- Experience teaching an Orton-based literacy program in grades K-3
- Experience coaching teachers in literacy instruction (preferred)
- Must be trained or attend training in the Literacy Essentials program (training costs covered)
