Job Summary
Literacy Specialist to support Montessori-based literacy interventions and school-wide literacy outcomes. Responsibilities include coaching the Academic Team (Associate Head of School, Academic Coaches, Lead Teachers, Assistants, and Learning Support Specialists) in foundational structured literacy strategies; training staff in literacy instruction; interpreting student literacy assessment scores to determine support strategies; holding office hours for collaboration and planning differentiated instruction; providing and supporting professional development in literacy for faculty; developing materials and lessons aligned with Montessori philosophy and the school-wide structured literacy model; maintaining and expanding the reader library; communicating with children and families; presenting parent education workshops; designing and presenting professional development for faculty; and contributing to a warm, collaborative learning environment. Requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s preferred), five-plus years of targeted literacy intervention experience with primary/elementary students, three-plus years of coaching Academic Teams, active Orton-Gillingham/Wilson/DIBELS certifications (or willingness to be trained), Montessori experience preferred, ability to work with diverse populations, and strong communication and educational technology skills.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Master’s Degree in related field preferred
- Five-plus years of experience facilitating targeted small-group literacy intervention with primary and elementary-aged students
- Three-plus years of experience coaching and supporting Academic Teams
- Active certifications or willingness to be trained: Orton-Gillingham Reading Training, Wilson Language Training, DIBELS training
- Montessori training/experience preferred
- Experience working with diverse populations of students, parents, and families
- Proficiency in Google Drive
- Experience teaching and coaching adults
