Job Summary
The Literacy Lab Fellow is embedded in a classroom of pre-K through first-grade students to develop early literacy skills. Responsibilities include delivering explicit, systematic instruction in foundational reading skills through targeted 1:1 and small-group strategies, conducting assessments with benchmark and progress-monitoring measures, analyzing data to identify students for targeted services, collaborating with lead teachers and Literacy Lab staff, participating in ongoing coaching and pilot efforts, and supporting after-school literacy events. The role requires regular attendance during the school day (approximately 5 hours per day, 5 days per week) with local travel as needed and a commitment to a full school year.
Required Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age or older by start date
- Must have at least a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent by start date
- Must be either a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States
- Must be able to meet the USCIS employment eligibility requirements
- Must pass mandatory pre-service background checks, including FBI, State of Service, State of Residence, National Sex Offender Public Website, and required school/district checks
- Speak, read, and write American English proficiently
- Interest in education, specifically helping young children develop early language and literacy skills
- Ability to connect and identify with students
- Dedication to community service
- Travel, as necessary.
