Job Summary
Engineer R&E platforms by deploying and managing systems for Alberta's research and education community, including public clouds and regional security tools. Manage the full hardware-to-software lifecycle from physical maintenance to scaling environments via Infrastructure as Code. Collaborate on best practices for Kubernetes, Prometheus monitoring, and automated configuration management using Ansible or Puppet. Provide Tier 3 style technical support to member organizations in the public and education sectors to assist with system integration and logging tools. This role involves a hybrid environment with flexible hours and a 35-hour work week (32 hours in July/August with Fridays off). Compensation is commensurate with experience, and a police information check is required. Join a not-for-profit agency building the digital backbone for Alberta's researchers and educators.
Required Qualifications
- Solid Linux knowledge (you know your way around the kernel and shell)
- Comfort with virtualization/containers
- A 'tinkerer' mindset for hardware troubleshooting
- A strong grasp of monitoring and alerting philosophy
- Experience with managing diverse compute environments
- Comfort navigating the nuances of private cloud orchestration (OpenStack)
- Comfort navigating the nuances of public cloud providers (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- An interest in building robust pipelines for system data
- Understanding how to ingest, transform, and route high-volume logs and event streams (leveraging technologies like Vector, FluentD, or Kafka)
- Ability to provide a satisfactory police information check
