Job Summary
Linux Infrastructure Engineer responsible for administering and optimizing Linux environments, delivering OS upgrades and patching, developing automation scripts, and supporting the migration from HP-UX to Linux. Key duties include managing performance improvements, handling 3rd-line escalations, monitoring and responding to alerts, contributing to disaster recovery testing, and collaborating across locations (travel when required). Must bring hands-on Linux experience, familiarity with virtualization technologies, strong networking knowledge, and the ability to prioritise multiple tickets and in-flight projects while maintaining clear documentation. The role supports a collaborative, inclusive culture and involves occasional travel to other sites as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Linux proficiency (RHEL, SLES, Ubuntu or similar)
- Experience with HP-UX environments preferred but not essential
- Familiarity with virtualization (VMware or Hyper-V)
- Strong networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, firewalls)
- 5+ years of UK IT experience
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Willingness to travel to other sites when needed
Desired Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with Linux (RHEL, SLES, Ubuntu or similar)
- Experience administering HPUX environments is preferred but not essential
- Knowledge of virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V
- Solid understanding of networking (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, firewalls)
- Over five years’ experience in the UK IT landscape
- Willingness to travel to other sites when needed
- Great communication skills and ability to prioritise independently
- Clear and concise documentation skills
- Calm, adaptable approach in a changing environment
