Job Summary
Linguist lII (FAIR) — Remote 6+ months. Perform linguistic analyses on large datasets, error analysis of AI model outputs, and write guidelines for human annotation and NLP tasks. Conduct typological and sociolinguistic research across multilingual settings, review NLP-adjacent literature, compare vendor deliveries, and provide guidance on linguistic knowledge areas. Engage with native speakers in various languages, collaborate with engineers/research scientists to communicate results, and reach out for cross-functional work. Requires 0-3 years experience and a graduate degree in Linguistics; must be a native speaker of a non-English language (preferably Indonesian) with broad knowledge of Austronesian languages; proficiency in Python and SQL; strong communication skills; ability to work independently under pressure. Education: graduate degree in Linguistics (PhD is a plus). Location: United States (remote) with restriction excluding TX and Illinois.
Required Qualifications
- Must have a graduate degree in Linguistics
- 0-3 years of experience
- Must be native speaker of a non-English language (preferably Indonesian) with high proficiency in another Austronesian language
- Strong written and spoken communication skills in business and research contexts
- Must be able to code in Python and query databases using SQL
- Experience collaborating with machine learning, NLP, or software engineers, or data scientists
- Experience contributing to research papers
- Knowledge of language typology, syntax, morphology, sociolinguistics, corpus linguistics, writing systems, pragmatics, phonology
- Experience with field work is a plus
- Must have ability to work independently, prioritize, plan, and track work
