Job Summary
Prepare meal ingredients, simple dishes, condiments, and other items as directed by the Head Cook for M/V Malaspina guests. Peel, cut, and portion fresh produce; trim, cut, and portion meat; and mix or prepare dressings and sauces. Assist with unloading, inspection, and storage of raw ingredients and supplies while maintaining compliance with health, safety, food handling, and hygiene codes. Perform other related duties as assigned in a high-paced kitchen environment. Requires a current Alaska Food Workers Card or ability to obtain within 30 days, a driver's license preferred, and one year of related experience. Paid training, partially subsidized housing, and competitive pay are provided.
Required Qualifications
- Basic understanding of or the ability to learn basic sanitation and regulations for workplace safety
- Basic understanding of or the ability to learn food handling techniques, preparation, and cooking procedures
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently
- Ability to work well as part of a team
- Ability to maintain personal hygiene
- Current Alaska Food Workers Card, or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
- Manual dexterity to cut and chop foods and perform other related tasks
Desired Qualifications
- High school or vocational school coursework in kitchen basics, such as food safety
- Driver's License
- One year of related experience
