Job Summary
Lighting Designer responsible for designing, documenting, and coordinating lighting systems for commercial, institutional, and residential projects. Develop lighting concepts, layouts, and specifications; perform lighting calculations; select fixtures and controls; integrate daylighting and sustainable design; produce AutoCAD/Revit plans and photometric layouts using AGi32, Visual, or ElumTools; ensure compliance with IES, NEC, and energy codes; coordinate with architects, engineers, and clients; respond to RFIs and support construction administration; present concepts to clients and modify designs based on feedback and project requirements. Requires a bachelor's degree (preferred) and typically 2–8+ years of experience; proficiency in AutoCAD/Revit; experience with AGi32/Visual/ElumTools; knowledge of lighting controls and energy standards; LEED/sustainable design knowledge; LC credential preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Lighting Design, Architecture, Interior Design, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred
- Typically 2–8+ years of lighting design experience (varies by level: junior, intermediate, senior)
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit
- Experience with lighting calculation software such as AGi32, Visual, or ElumTools
- Knowledge of lighting controls systems
- Familiarity with IES standards and energy codes (ASHRAE, IECC)
- Experience working in architectural lighting design firms or MEP consulting firms
- Knowledge of sustainable design and LEED principles
- Experience with BIM workflows
- LC (Lighting Certified) credential (preferred)
- Strong creative and technical problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Typical Project Types: Commercial office buildings, Healthcare facilities, Educational institutions, Hospitality and retail projects
