Job Summary
Lifeguard needed for Part Time role at YMCA facility under supervision of Aquatics Director. Responsibilities include supervising swimmers during recreational and fitness swims, enforcing facility rules, administering First Aid, maintaining safety and sanitation procedures, inspecting the aquatic facility daily, documenting patron attendance and water chemistry, and assisting with branch activities and events. Requires current lifeguard certification (ARC, YMCA, ILTP Ellis, Starguard, or BSA Lifeguarding) and certifications in CPR, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, and O2 (or obtain within specified timelines). Must be at least 15 years old, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, and be able to respond swiftly in emergencies; physical requirements include lifting up to 25 pounds and various mobility activities. The role emphasizes teamwork, safety, and customer service within the Upper Palmetto YMCA system.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 15 years old
- Must have a current nationally recognized Lifeguard Certification to include: American Red Cross, YMCA, ILTP Ellis, Starguard, and Boy Scouts of America Lifeguarding Certification
- If not American Red Cross Lifeguard Certified, must complete the American Red Cross Lifeguard course in the first 120 days of employment
- Current certification in Professional CPR
- Current certification in First Aid
- Bloodborne Pathogens
- O2 (If you do not currently have this certification, must obtain within 30 days of hire or at first available training)
- Must present a professional, mature image, and have excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Must have a positive attitude and desire to achieve the mission of the Upper Palmetto YMCA
- Walking, carrying, sitting, seeing, hearing, crouching, lifting (25 pounds), pushing, kneeling, standing and speaking
- Must be able to accomplish the following: Remaining alert, with no lapses of consciousness; Sit for extended periods including in an elevated chair; Communicate with others immediately when responding to an emergency; Hear noises and distress signals; Observe all assigned areas of the pool or water park; Perform all needed rescues, resuscitation and survival skills; Think in abstract, solve problems, make quick decisions; Have adequate memory skills; Act swiftly in an emergency
