Job Summary
Maintain active surveillance of the pool area using the "effective 10/20 scanning strategy" while ensuring staff follow proper guidelines. Respond to emergencies and relay reports in accordance with YMCA and American Red Cross policies. Perform and document proper equipment and chemical checks using appropriate protocol. Attend all staff meetings, required training, and monthly in-service sessions. Correct peers when needed and perform other assigned duties as directed by the supervisor. This hourly role at the Farmington Family YMCA offers free American Red Cross Lifeguard training and flexible scheduling.
Required Qualifications
- At a minimum, some high school level education
- Over 16+ years of age
- Ability to hear and observe distress signals in the water and anywhere in the zone of responsibility
- Skills to meet strength and lifting requirements
Desired Qualifications
- 1 year of experience
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard license
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer
- Basic First Aid
- AED
- Emergency Oxygen
