Job Summary
Maintain active surveillance of the pool, deck, and surrounding areas to ensure safe swimming conditions while enforcing pool regulations and water safety policies. Respond immediately to emergency situations by rescuing swimmers in distress, administering CPR or artificial respiration, and completing related reports. Warn swimmers of improper activities, administer first aid for injuries, and answer customer questions regarding safety rules and YMCA Aquatics Standard Operating Procedures. Complete daily tasks according to established procedures, attend required meetings and trainings, and adhere to abuse risk management and mandated reporting requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age 15
- Current Lifeguard Certification - American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard or be able to gain certification within 60 days of employment
- CPR, First Aid, & AED Certification
- Demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
- Ability to effectively communicate and enforce policies and procedures to members, program participants, and guests
- Ability to react quickly and properly in emergency situations
- Complete New Staff Orientation, Child Abuse Prevention, and Blood Bourne Pathogen training within first 30-days of employment
- Lifeguard Certification is required prior to being hired as a lifeguard
