Job Summary
Ensure safety of all individuals in and around the pool by monitoring activity in your zone, enforcing pool rules, and responding to emergency situations. Maintain accurate records per CT Health Department Sanitary Code, keep premises clean and sanitary, and assist with facility maintenance. Secure a substitute lifeguard when unable to fulfill duties and notify your supervisor of changes. Report 15 minutes prior to scheduled hours in proper uniform. Attend all staff meetings and in-services as required. Maintain all certifications required by the YMCA of Greater Hartford.
Required Qualifications
- 16 years of age or older
- Current YMCA or ARC Lifeguard certification
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification (infant, child and adult)
- Oxygen Admin certification
- First Aid certification
- Ability to see and hear individuals and alarms in pool/pool area
- Ability to use chemistry test kit
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
- Ability to perform activities which require sustained concentration and attention
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time
- Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 30 pounds in weight
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations
- Physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
