Job Summary
Lifeguard role at West Suburban YMCA in Newton, MA. Maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool and surrounding areas, monitor the pool area, respond to emergencies per YMCA policies, complete required incident/accident reports, and uphold a professional, welcoming environment. Must hold current Lifeguard certification (American Red Cross or equivalent) with CPR, AED, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen; be physically prepared to meet lifeguard duties and wear proper uniform. Daily responsibilities include equipment checks, chemical monitoring, enforcing safety rules, maintaining records, attending staff meetings, and performing duties beyond guarding as needed. Flexible part-time shifts available (mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends) with a minimum of 10 hours and up to 28 hours per week; starting pay $15.00/hour. Commitment to safety, effective communication with members and staff, and a positive team-oriented attitude are essential.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age 16 years
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer
- AED
- Basic First Aid
- Emergency Oxygen
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard or equivalent
- Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness
- Lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
- Good role model, high integrity and professionalism
- Must support pool safety rules and YMCA policies
