Job Summary
Conduct continuous surveillance of all pool members and guests while on stand, monitoring swimmers for safety protocol compliance and scanning for hazards. Readily respond to drownings or injuries by providing first aid, CPR, and AED care until emergency services arrive. Perform consistent pool chemical checks, add chemicals as directed, and maintain accurate records of chemical levels and pool use. Skim, brush, and vacuum pools as needed while ensuring bathroom checks occur every 30 minutes. Walk and command the pool deck, enforce all pool rules and regulations, and assist with event teardown and setup. Maintain cleanliness of the pool office and storage areas, ensuring all rescue equipment is stored safely.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Red Cross First Aid/CPR Certification
- Must be minimum of 15 years of age prior to February 1 of each year
- Must attend all required in-service dates and training
- Ability to react to extremely difficult situations and remain calm and effectively manage emergency situations
- Excellent skill in the application of lifeguard surveillance and all rescue techniques
- Excellent customer service skills, communication and demonstrates diplomacy
- Ability to multi-task and focus on details
- Must exhibit confidence and ability to reason and problem solve quickly
- Must be able to address situations with all age groups
- Ability to follow written and verbal commands and instructions
- Knowledge of First Aid, CPR, AED and related emergency medical procedures
- Knowledge of Lifesaving practices
- Knowledge of Pool chemical testing
- Valid Driver's License - or reliable transportation to and from work
- Regular and predictable attendance
- Ability to work special events, promotions and other demands of the position which may require early morning, late evenings and weekend hours
- Ability to work outside in extreme heat
- Ability to move 50 or more pounds on a regular basis
- Ability to communicate well in English
