Job Summary
Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the aquatics area and respond immediately to emergencies, enforcing pool rules and securing safety. Provide first aid and rescue services up to American Red Cross standards, documenting incidents with detailed reports. Perform hourly locker room and pool deck checks, complete daily cleaning tasks, and assist with opening and closing duties. Attend monthly in-services and audits while helping patrons with life jackets and departmental events. This part-time role includes up to 29 hours per week with flexible weekday, evening, and weekend shifts.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum fifteen (15) years of age
- Minimum three (3) months lifeguarding experience
- American Red Cross Deep Water Lifeguard certification
- Proficient swimming ability
- Ability to effectively communicate and interact with supervisors, members of the general public, employees, Town Officials and others involved in performance of job duties
- Ability to assemble reports in a concise, clear and effective manner
- Ability to use independent judgement and work with little direct supervision
- Ability to operate a computer, and other office equipment needed to perform job duties
- Proficiency in various software, including Microsoft Office suite
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to talk, hear, listen, and comprehend
- Ability to drive and/or operate mechanical equipment
- Ability to sit, stand, walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to complete repetitive wrist, hand, and/or fine motor movement
- Ability to grasp, pull, push, climb, balance, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl
- Visual acuity of 20 feet or more
- Visual acuity of 20 inches or less
- Three dimensional vision
- Precise hand/eye coordination
- Ability to identify and distinguish colors
- Manual/General labor of medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum fifteen (15) years of age and minimum three (3) months lifeguarding experience
- American Red Cross Waterparks Lifeguard certification
- Knowledge of the department's Emergency Action Plan
- Knowledge of principals of governmental organization and administration
- Knowledge of the lifeguarding standards set by the American Red Cross
