Job Summary
Maintain active surveillance of the pool area and surrounding deck, checking for hazardous conditions upon arrival. Respond immediately to emergency situations using the "safe-in-six" model, complete related reports, and perform chemical testing when not guarding. Ensure all equipment is available, apply safety rules and state Health Department codes, and maintain accurate records. Perform CPR, AED, and basic first aid, and attend all staff meetings and in-service training. Maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness while fostering positive relationships with members and staff.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age of 15
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification
- AED certification
- Basic First Aid certification
- Current YMCA lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding certification
- YMCA Lifeguarding Certification within 60 days of hire
- Oxygen Administration certification within 30 days of hire
- Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness
- Lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
