Job Summary
Guard female-only swim times, monitor pool activities to prevent accidents, and enforce all pool rules while rescuing swimmers in danger. Maintain order and cleanliness by scrubbing decks, railings, and scum-lines, and administer first aid or perform CPR as needed. Test and record water quality for temperature and pH levels, adding chemicals to samples per Maryland bathing code. Check in and out lost items such as towels, rings, watches, and apparel. Present a professional image to members and guests, providing outstanding service through information and courtesy. Assist Aquatics staff in other areas and participate in regularly scheduled in-service training. Maintain high physical fitness and readiness to react to emergencies. Work weekends and weekdays between 6am and 10pm, including split shifts.
Required Qualifications
- Current Certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding
- Current Certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer (including use of AED) & First Aid
- Current Baltimore County and Baltimore City Pool Operator's certification
- Must be female
- Ability to swim 500 meters (550 yards) continuously in under 15 minutes
- Ability to retrieve an object from water with a depth of 10 feet and return with it for 25 yards in under one minute and 30 seconds
- Ability to perform any of the basic rescues required for American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification
- Ability to demonstrate proper CPR skills
- Ability to respond appropriately to emergency scenarios
- Ability to see and correctly identify objects (with vision correction or appropriate sunglasses) at 125 feet
- Ability to see in bright light
- Ability to remain at their post for extended periods up to three hours without a break
- Ability to use a ladder to access and descend from the lifeguard chair
- Ability to use hand tools to clean the pool and pool area
- Ability to remove an unconscious adult from the water (with assistance and using appropriate methods)
